Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Speed of Light is a WordPress performance plugin and cloud optimization service made by Digitaldive (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy covers the website at speedoflight.pro, the Speed of Light plugin and the Speed of Light cloud service. For questions about privacy, email help@speedoflight.pro.

2. This website

When you use speedoflight.pro we may handle:

• Messages you send us. The support form collects your name, email address, the topic and your message. To fight spam we also record the IP address and browser type the message was sent from. Messages are stored in our support inbox so we can reply and follow up.
• Your customer account. If you create an account or sign in, we store your name, email address and a securely hashed password, and link the account to your Freemius licenses so you can see them here.
• The chat assistant. If a chat assistant is available on the site and you use it, the messages you type are sent to our AI service provider to generate replies. Please don't share sensitive information in the chat. If you ask to be contacted, the name, email and note you provide are passed to our support inbox.
• Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting keeps standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for a limited time and are not used to profile you.

3. Purchases and licensing

Checkout, payments, subscriptions, taxes and invoices are handled by Freemius, which acts as our reseller and merchant of record. When you buy or start a trial, Freemius collects what it needs to complete the transaction, such as your name, email address, billing details and payment method (card or PayPal), under its own privacy policy. Freemius shares with us your name, email address and the details of your licenses and subscriptions. We never receive your full card number.

When you activate a license, the plugin contacts Freemius to activate and check the license and to deliver updates. This sends your site address, the license and basic technical details such as the WordPress, PHP and plugin versions.

4. The Speed of Light cloud service

Sites with an active license or free trial use our cloud service to analyze and optimize their pages. To do that:

• The plugin sends our cloud the site address, the list of public page URLs to analyze, the plugin version and technical details needed to build optimization plans.
• Our scanner then loads those public pages in a headless Chrome browser at desktop and phone widths, exactly as an anonymous visitor would. It does not sign in, and it has no access to your WordPress admin or database.
• We store the results, such as generated CSS, the largest element on each page and layout-shift fixes, so the plugin can download and apply them.

If you run a site that uses the plugin, you are responsible for making sure the public pages you ask us to analyze can lawfully be fetched for this purpose.

5. Real-user monitoring

Speed of Light can measure Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB) in your visitors' browsers. When real-user monitoring is enabled on a site:

• The plugin stores privacy-bounded summaries on that site: the page path without its query string, a coarse device type (mobile or desktop), the metric values and a description of the page element involved.
• No IP addresses, query strings or cookies are stored with the metrics. An IP address is used only momentarily to limit how many samples one browser can send.
• The same summaries are forwarded to the Speed of Light cloud, where we use them to analyze performance and improve the optimization plans for that site.
• On the site, metrics are deleted automatically after 30 days by default. Strict per-site limits cap how much is collected.

The site owner decides whether to enable monitoring and is responsible for describing it in their own privacy notice. The plugin adds suggested wording to the WordPress privacy policy guide to help with this.

6. Cookies

speedoflight.pro shows a cookie banner on your first visit. We use necessary cookies to run the site, keep it secure, protect our forms and keep you signed in to your account. Optional analytics or marketing cookies are only set if you allow them. Your choice is stored in your browser for 180 days, and you can change it at any time through the cookie settings link.

The Speed of Light plugin does not set marketing or tracking cookies on the sites that use it.

7. How we use information

We use the information above to provide and improve the plugin and cloud service, deliver licenses and updates, answer support requests, keep our services secure, prevent abuse, and meet our legal and accounting obligations. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

8. Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Speed of Light, and only as much as they need: Freemius for payments and licensing, our hosting and email delivery providers, and our AI service provider if you use the chat assistant. We may also disclose information when the law requires it. Some providers may process data in other countries; where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards.

9. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Support messages are kept so we can help with follow-up questions, purchase records are kept as long as accounting and tax rules require, and server logs are deleted after a limited period. Cloud scan results are kept while they are useful for optimizing your site. Data the plugin stores on your own site follows your settings and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the plugin.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict how we use it. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom these rights come from the GDPR; California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what we collect and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms. To use any of these rights, email help@speedoflight.pro. We may need to confirm your identity first. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Speed of Light is meant for website owners and businesses, not children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
